Benissa || Alicante

Away from the hustle and bustle of the Costa Blanca, and high and dry at about 275 metres above sea level, the authentic Spanish town Benissa is located. The warm Mediterranean creates a year-round pleasant temperature and diverse landscape.

The Costa Blanca naturally is the perfect destination for sun-, sea- and beachlovers. The various coastal villages all have their individual Spanish charm with vast (pebble) beaches, boulevards terraces. Although the village centre of Benissa is located more inland, the Mediterranean Sea is only a twenty-minute drive away. The coastline has many hidden bays and wonderful sandy beaches. Two other towns in the area are the seaside resorts Moraira and Calpe. The latter is famous for the rock in the sea, named the “Penyal d’Ifac”, its fishing harbour, fish market and its many fish restaurants.

Looking for a bit more bustle? The big bathing resort Benidorm can be reached by car in less than half an hour. The clean and safe beaches here have been awarded many times. Except sun bathing, you can also enjoy many (water) sports activities such as volleyball, beach football, or water-skiing (provided by the cableway ski installation of the water-ski school).

Had enough from all the sand between your toes? There are lots of other things to do in the area. About 10 kilometres northwest of Benissa you can find the magnificent “Jalón Valley”. The area is well-known for its wine-making and is extremely suited for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. Each year in February, the almond trees in the valley are in full bloom. This turns the landscape into a beautiful soft pink blanket.

There are plenty of opportunities to entertain the entire family such as the multiple theme parks and water parks in and around Benidorm. Sporty people will have a fantastic time in “Parque de Foietes” where they can participate in various ball sports, run a lap or two at the athletics track or go for a swim in the pool with Olympic sizes. Benidorm will offer both the young and the old a great time, also until the wee hours.

On Saturday mornings you will find a market in the village centre. This well-visited antiques market in the village is seen as the best one in the region, and rightly so. Antiques is just a feeble name for the wide-ranging offer varying from furniture to jewellery and other interesting curiosities that can be found on the market.

The centre of Benissa is dominated by the enormous white cathedral called “La Marina Alta” and has two squares: the “Plaza de la Iglesia” and “Plaza Rey Jaume I”. The town also has many historic buildings dating back to the 16th century, such as the commercial trade building and the old hospital.

In Benissa you will find a big supermarket, a pharmacy, a bakery and a great variety of shops, restaurants, and terraces.
